Custom Jersey Size Chart: How to Measure a Team Correctly

A jersey that fits is a jersey people actually wear. A jersey that does not fit sits in a drawer – and in a team order, one sizing mistake repeats itself across the whole roster.

Here is how to get the sizes right.

The three measurements that matter

1. Chest

Measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape level and snug but not tight. This is the measurement most size charts are built around.

2. Length

From the top of the shoulder straight down to where you want the hem to sit. Most players want the hem just below the waistband.

3. Sleeve

For short sleeve jerseys, measure from the shoulder seam to where you want the sleeve to end. For long sleeve, measure to the wrist bone.

Youth sizes vs adult sizes

Youth and adult sizes are not simply scaled up and down. Youth jerseys are cut shorter in the body and closer through the shoulders. If a player is between a youth XL and an adult S, the adult S is usually the safer choice for a growing teenager.

  • Youth: YS, YM, YL, YXL
  • Adult: XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL
  • Custom measurements: available for players outside the standard range

Every jersey in an order can be a different size, and there is no extra charge for mixing youth and adult sizes.

How to size a whole team without chasing 20 people

The fastest approach is a "sample fitting". Ask your supplier to send one jersey in a mid size. Have two or three players try it on, then use that as the reference for everyone else.

If you cannot do a fitting, collect the following from each player: their usual t-shirt size, their height, and their chest measurement. Send us all three and we will recommend a size for each player.

Baseball and American football jerseys fit differently

  • Baseball jerseys are usually worn loose and untucked, so most players go one size up from their t-shirt size.
  • American football jerseys are cut to wear over shoulder pads, so they run larger than a standard shirt size.
  • Basketball jerseys are worn loose and sleeveless – most adult players take their normal size.
  • Soccer kits are cut closer to the body. If your team prefers a relaxed fit, order one size up.

Frequently asked questions

Can I order different sizes in the same 15-piece minimum?
Yes. Mix youth and adult sizes freely within the minimum order.
What if a player needs a size you do not list?
Send us their measurements. Custom sizing is available at no extra charge.
Do custom jerseys shrink?
Sublimated polyester jerseys do not shrink. Cotton t-shirts and hoodies may shrink slightly on the first wash – tumble dry low.
